Deity of Christ
If you ask a Muslim does he believe in Jesus, He will answer, "yes".
If you ask a Mormon does he believe in Jesus, He will answer, "yes".
If you ask a Jehovah Witness does he believe in Jesus, He will answer, "yes".
If you ask a New Age follower does he believe in Jesus, He will answer, "yes".
There is only one thing that separates us from every major cult, every Islamic believer, every New Ager and every person who may say, "I believe in Jesus", and that is the Deity of Jesus Christ.
He's not one of the Seventy Prophets of Islam.
He is not a man who elevated himself to godhood as the Mormon believes.
He is not an angel as Jehovah Witnesses believes.
He is not one of the "Masters" of the Universe as New Age teaches.
My brothers - Jesus is God. He is God.
It is critical for us today to demonstrate from Scripture that Jesus the Anointed One, the Messiah is none other than God Almighty. Praise to Him.
We are failing to show the world Who this Jesus is and thus the world thinks Him no more than choosing which restaurant to go to. Just another good guy.
Please worship with me as we look at the Deity of Jesus the Anointed One.
1. Jesus is Deity because of His Pre-existence.
Jesus is not just a prophet or as Nicodemus stated a "teacher come from God". No. Jesus was God come to teach.
Jesus existed before His Incarnation or before He took on human flesh.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.
"Beginning" before all things existed. –stars, earth, sun, molecules, atoms or even fractals. "Word" means from a living voice. The Word was alive.
The Word was in the presence of THEOS before the beginning. Jesus did not become the Son of God as cults teach. He was always the living voice, the Word in existence with the Father.
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Now the living voice takes on human flesh. He was not an angel in the flesh but He was God in the flesh. Jesus Who is God gives up His omnipresence, gives up His royalty, gives up His seat in Heaven by His own power – only God could do that.
John 1:30 "This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.'
He's after me --- but, He was before me. Only Deity.
John 6:38 "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
I lived in Heaven before I was born. My Father sent me to do His will.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Elohim -- Singular - NO, Dual - NO, Plural – three or more - NO, Plural Intensive – three only – YES! Jesus is exposed in the very first verse of our Bible. Only the Trinity could be equivalent to the Hebrew's plural intensive.
2. His Eternality
Only God can claim eternality. We saw that Jesus clearly existed before He became a man.
Eternal means without beginning and without end.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 8:58 Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."
"Ego-Emi" (I exist in present tense) Russian "ya-ishma" exist of myself.
Jesus is always in the Present Tense. The same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Yesterday – I AM. Today – I AM. Tomorrow – I AM.
Exodus 3:14 And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' "
Present Tense – note that eternity is explained by being always present tense. Only in "time" can there be the past and the future.
Jesus refers to Himself 8 times in John as "I AM".
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Revelation 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."
3. Jesus is Fully God and in Him is the Divine
Nature and Essence of God.
Philippians 2:6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
Form = "morphe" One of the strongest comments on Jesus' Deity.
Morphe means that the external form reveals the internal or inner nature.
In other words, When you see Jesus, you see God.
Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Again, His outside (flesh) reveals His inner essence – God.
Jesus clearly declares His position is over all creation, because He was before all things.
Colossians 2:9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
In Jesus lives the maximum of the Father, the maximum of Son, and the maximum of the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, Sat down by what? "Majesty on high".
Jesus revealed the Nature and Character of God to man.
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
"Word" characterized: 1. Beginning, 2. With God, 3. Is God became flesh, not a spook, God living with us. The Shakkonna Glory of God is revealed in Jesus.
John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
No one has ever seen nor will see the Father. If you want to see the Father you must look at Jesus. Jesus is the Essence of the Father. Jesus has exposed the Father to us.
Read: John 14:9-11
4. Jesus mentioned in the fundamental parts of
the Trinity.
Matthew 28:19 Jesus mentioned equally with Father and Holy Spirit in baptismal ordinance.
II Corinthians 13:14 Jesus is included in the Trinity. That's why modern cults and Islam hate the Trinity. It included the reality that Jesus is God.
5. Jesus exhibited Divine attributes that only
belong to God.
Omnipresence in thought – Luke 8:22-35, Jesus controls nature even while He was asleep. He knew even in sleep. Christ was not limited by His presence or power by time and space.
Omniscience knowing all things – John 2:24 Jesus the Anointed One knew what was in every man. They believed in Him because of the signs He did, but Jesus did not believe in them because He knew their hearts.
He knew Nathaniel without introduction.
He knew Zacchaeus without introduction.
He knew where He was without being told.
Jesus was immutable – He never changed and has eternally been Jesus the Son of God.
His life is eternal as the Father's is.
Jesus performed acts that transcended all natural laws. Walked on water, healed diseases, raised the dead, and forgave sins.
Jesus is the creator and is the sustainer of all things. He holds every atom together. He is the glue of the universe.
Jesus, Matthew 1:21 name means: Lord is Salvation
Immanuel, Matthew 1:23 means: God is with us.
Christ, Matthew 11:1-6 means: the Anointed One
Yahoveh, Jesus is the I AM.
Lord, 2 Peter 1:11 means same as Adonai in Old Testament.
God, 2 Peter 1:1 Equivalent to OT Elohim
Son of God, did not become the Son of God but has always been the Son of God. John 3:16,17
He claimed to be Son of Man while being God.
He claimed to be Son of David giving Him an earthly legal right to the Throne that was already His.
He claimed to be the Only Begotten, Unique, one of a kind, eternal Son of God.
Men, I present to you the Holy Lamb of God, the One who deserves our praise, honor, and adoration.
Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created."
Revelation 5:12 saying with a loud voice: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!"
Revelation 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: "Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!"
Revelation 19:7 "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready."
